When it comes time to rent a car for a vacation, sometimes a “cheaper” car is the perfect way to go. There are two types of people when it comes to renting a car: those who want the economy car and those who want a luxury car. Those who insist on a luxury car typically drive in one regularly. They want the stigma that goes along with that type of car. To put it bluntly, they are trying to impress someone (not in a bad way always). Those who want to go for a more economical car want to get from point A to point B spending the least amount of money. To them that Cheap Suzuki that gets great gas mileage looks more attractive then that BMW that costs twice as much.

While choosing what type of rental car you want is as much about personal preference as it is about economics, there are some unmistakable facts about renting a “cheaper” car that are hard to argue against. Namely: you tend to get better gas mileage with economy cars. It’s a fact: the less bells and whistles a car has, typically the better gas mileage it gets. If you rent a heavy, expensive luxury convertible you’re not going to get as good gas mileage as if you rent the Cheap Suzuki. And if your renting a car, which can be expensive to begin with, why wouldn’t you want to make at least some of the money back on gas mileage?

Of course, since most cars are fairly comfortable to begin with, it’s not like you’re giving up comfort and quality by taking the “Cheap Suzuki” rental car route. People seem to have the idea that the more expensive a rental car is the better quality you’ll get. This is not always true. While an expensive rental may have a few more comfort features (seat warmers, individual climate control, etc.) it is not typically enough to justify spending the extra money. If you need that much more comfort bring a pillow for your back.

As mentioned above, it’s all personal preference. If you feel the need to rent an expensive car then by all means, go for it. The point is, when your on vacation, sometimes money trumps creature comforts, and considering a “Cheap Suzuki” is pretty comfortable in it’s own right, all you’re left with is the stigma.
