If you’ve been going in circles trying to find yourself the high performance luxury car you want, but you’re bank balance just isn’t up to meeting the demands of showroom prices, then why not think about buying used? Say, for example, you’re after a Porsche. Buying a used Porsche, whilst the process does entail being extra careful with what you buy and who you buy it from, could pay off – getting you precisely the car you want at a price that the bank balance won’t buckle under.
Porsche’s base model, the Boxster, is probably the most commonly spotted Porsche on the roads today. This might not only be due to its smaller price tag than its larger, more prestigious and pricey counterparts, but the car itself has been a huge hit. The Boxster is by no means a compromised sports car, but rather a high performance machine in itself. Brand new base models start upwards of £35,000, whilst the sportier ‘S’ models and sleeker ‘Spyder’ models start around the £41,000 mark. Of course, for many, this might just be a stretch to far, but a 2007 Boxster model with 28,000 miles on the clock, priced at £25,000 might be more within the budget.
On the other end of the scale, if you’re looking for something really special, you might be considering the best Porsche has to offer. Porsche’s infamous 911 Turbo is priced at upwards of £125,000 in the showroom. If you’re thinking of spending this amount of money, why would you ever want to buy used? Well, think of it this way. Many of the customers who buy this kind of car own it for 6 months, drive for a few hundred miles in the sunshine and the move on to something else. Thus, a 2009 Porsche 911 Turbo with only 1,500 miles on the clock can be fetched for around £115,000. Already, you’ve saved yourself a huge lump of cash by buying a practically brand new car, as opposed to an actually brand new car…make sense? Not many of these cars will be around, so you may have to be prepared to travel to go and view, try and buy it. But in the end, it may all be worth the extra effort. You may end up with the Porsche of your dreams.
Of course, what you’ve seen here is the to extreme ends of the range Porsche has to offer. As we all know with Porsche’s range of cars, there’s dozens of sub-models and hundreds of different trim levels, so you really ought to take each car as it comes and work on its own merits. A used Porsche is something too special to generalise about, so one should use a specialised approach to buying one.
